The moutain of Hang Mua

Description

Hang Mua Mountain is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in Vietnam. It is located in Ninh Binh province, near the city of the same name, in the northern part of the country.

This mountain is famous for its natural beauty, fascinating history, and the spectacular panoramic views it offers. But it is also known for the cave located at its base.

You have the choice to either attempt the ascent of its peak, where an impressive view of the rice fields awaits you once at the top, provided you can climb its 500 steps carved into the mountain's rock.

Or, you can try to explore its cave, which houses various rock formations of unique and awe-inspiring beauty due to their spectacular size.

We recommend that if you want to attempt the ascent of the mountain, you start early in the morning. This destination is a victim of its own success, and you may risk being "crowded" by a tide of tourists and not being able to fully appreciate the tranquility and beauty of its summit.

The History of the Place

The history of Hang Mua caves dates back millions of years, when the region was still covered by the sea. The mountains you can see today were once underwater coral reefs. Over time, due to geological movements coupled with climate changes, these impressive rock formations eventually emerged, creating the unique landscape you can explore if you wish.

The Hang Mua caves are not only a remarkable geological site but also a place of great religious significance. The Hang Mua Pagoda, located near the entrance of the caves, was erected to honor the monk Trinh Khai, an important figure in the Buddhist faith of the region.

The name "Hang Mua" literally means "dancing cave." According to local legend, a Vietnamese emperor visited the region and was so impressed by the beauty of the landscape that he organized a dance here. That's how the name "Hang Mua" was given to the mountain and its caves.

Its Cultural Significance

As previously mentioned, this mountain holds strong cultural and religious significance.

The Hang Mua Mountain bears deep historical meaning for the Vietnamese people. The ascent of the 500 steps leading to the mountain's summit is an act steeped in history.

This sort of "pilgrimage" is equally significant for the Vietnamese people due to the numerous prominent figures in their history who have walked this path, from emperors to religious figures.

The Culinary Art of the Region

Crispy rice, also known as "Me Com Chay," is a crunchy snack that you can find in the local markets of Ninh Binh.

"Me Com Chay" is prepared using two main basic ingredients: "Me" (young sesame seeds) and "Com" (rice). The young sesame seeds are used to give a unique flavor and a crunchy texture to the dish, while the rice serves as the base.

The sesame seeds are roasted to release their flavor and aroma. They are then mixed with steamed rice, creating a harmonious blend of crispy and fluffy textures. Fresh herbs like cilantro, mint, and basil are added to introduce a touch of freshness to the dish.
